Hossfly Members Please join us for our next monthly meeting!!!
Please remember the upcoming meeting of Hossfly at OSYC IS Tuesday, November 7th at 6:00 PM.
Everyone’s favorite speaker, Jim Franks, Senior Research Scientist at the Gulf Coast Research Lab, will present at our next meeting… Tuesday, October 3 at the OSYC at 6pm. Jim will be giving us a “Tarpon Research Update” and the Fall fishing reports are heating up so don’t miss out!
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, September 5 at the OSYC at 6pm, (update) but Tom will come by around 5pm with lots of new and different rigs for you to try. Many of you know Tom Jindra. Tom represents TFO and other manufacturers. He is a Master Casting Instructor, emeritus member of the FFI-CBOG, and recipient of perhaps fly fishing’s highest honor, the Lapis Lazuli award. Tom also was instrumental in contributing the brand new “TFO rod of your choice” that we raffled off for a number of years. We are very fortunate to have him visit so don’t miss this one!
Our introductory classes and most of the seminars will be held on Saturday, but there will be casting workshops and testing, as well as the banquet and auction on Friday.
Remember that the Fair donates about half of its proceeds to our own Gulf Coast Research Lab. So please support this great event which brings many of the best in fly fishing right here to Ocean Springs every year. We need volunteers for registration and Friday set up as well as donations for our auctions and raffles.
Many thanks to several members who are doing a lot of work with PR and to promote the Fair locally, Syd who will active with casting workshops and testing, Tom Herrington who will be tying this year, and both Tom and Jeff who are donating loaded fly boxes. See our Gulf Coast Council website for schedules and more details at http://gulfcoastfff.org/.
Hey Hossfly Members! Meeting time!!!
Please remember the upcoming meeting of Hossfly at OSYC is Tuesday, August 1st at 6:00 PM.
We will not be having a presentation, this is strictly a business meeting to discuss plans for the OSYC Fish Fry on Saturday, Aug 12th! We will be needing fish donations that day to fry up and donations of desserts.
We will also likely be discussing the September Fly Fishing Fair, our need for donations and volunteers and our commitment to the Federation and the Council http://gulfcoastfff.org/.
Many thanks to our awesome club secretary Colleen, for most of this message.
Our annual fish fry is coming up on the evening of Saturday, August 12 at the OSYC. This is the best old fashioned fish fry on the Gulf Coast. Real fresh, local, fish. Mostly speckled trout (none of that import stuff) with “fixin’s” and lots of home made desserts for only $10 a plate. Bring your friends and do not miss this one!
We will need lots of volunteers, fillet donations and desserts. Watch for more details to follow.
Our July meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 11 (one week later than usual due to the July 4th holiday) at the OSYC at 6pm. Fishing friend and ESFF founding member, Captain Tim Diehl will come by to talk with us about the outstanding fly fishing for Tarpon that he has had this Spring in the Florida Keys. We will also be discussing HOSSFLYs continued affiliation with the FFI and upcoming events including our August Fish Fry. See you there!
Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6 at the OSYC around 6pm depending on pre-meeting activities. We will have a presentation from Brian Little at Sabine Skiffs, who will be bringing a boat for us to look at. Other topics should include the pending Dauphin Island trip on 6/10, a “boom or bust” Tarpon trip report from one member’s late May trip, plus other pending Spring outings. As always, watch for more details in your club emails and we hope to see you there!
(Updated 4/28/17) – Here is a reprint of our current email concerning the meeting…
